Quilts and Human Rights Lecture

Join Laura McDowell Hopper, curator at the Pick Museum of Northern Illinois University, as she discusses a new understanding of the history of global human rights as seen through textiles of awareness and activism.  Of all the textile forms linked to human rights activities, one form - the quilt - has proved an especially potent and popular art form for individuals, working alone or as part of organized groups, to subversively or overtly act for human rights.

Get a special sneak peek of a new exhibit here at The Quilter’s Trunk.

Operation Help A Hero

A Call to Action:

Currently, there are several hundred homeless veterans in Chicago. When a veteran leaves a shelter or transitional housing and moves to permanent residence, they often do not have the basic items needed to setup a home. These are things we take for granted, but the men and women who bravely fought to defend our freedom often go without.

The Quilter's Trunk has partnered with Alderman O'Shea and Operation Help A Hero. TQT will accept all quilts and pillowcases, for the month of June, and donate them to these vets as they move into permanent homes.
